What Nature teaches us about balance

Why Balance is the most important thing for a happy healthy life

Balance is probably one of the most important words you will ever come across. To live a happy healthy life Balance is something you must understand. Us humans have a very hard time learning appropriate balance and I am quite sure that is for a reason, we need to learn to seek it out and master it.

Nature teaches us many lessons and balance is by far one of the biggest and most important things. We spend our lives trying to obtain balance in everything that we do. You eat too much or too little and both scenarios are bad for your health. Believe it or not if you exercise too much it can hurt your body, but exercise too little and your body will not be able to move correctly. You work too much and forget to enjoy life and all its beauty, but you get too lazy and lack purpose. While hard work is honorable and leads to a good life so does downtime. We end up not giving the important things in life the attention they need, and we become tired, sick, and irritated.

Nature and humans (humans are a part of nature) are always trying to reach a state of Homeostasis weather it is emotionally or physically. Homeostasis is defined as self-regulating processes by which biological systems maintain stability while adjusting to changing external conditions. Balance is not something that you can do once and it then is good for the rest of your life, it is a process that you need to work at every single day regardless of what life has in store for you and the changing external conditions that are thrown your way. When you step away from the craziness you tend to gain the insight and the perspective needed instead of running around in circles. You stretch yourself too far in one direction it will never have a good outcome. Being a well-rounded individual is the best way to go. Too much of anything is a bad idea and you will never realize how important balance is until you don’t have any. Remember moderation is important in all things.

In Nature the moon would not have light so we could see it to guide our way a night if the sun did not shine on it. You would not enjoy the first flower buds of spring without the long rest of winter. You need the rain for the rainbow to show itself. Acceptance is a huge part of balance would you understand how great pleasures of life are without the pain?

Here are 5 lessons that nature teaches us about balance

1)   Stop rushing through life, you must be steady and purposeful. The beautiful tree that you admire and towers over you like a huge, impressive skyscraper, and the larger-than-life mountains and canyons were not made over night. Their magnificence and beauty were accomplished with a steady purposeful growth and not a sloppy careless crazy fast. All good things will come with time and nothing great happens overnight.

2)   It is ok to be human. You will have amazing productive days and then you will have days that you need to recharge and slow way down. Even the beautiful intricate flowers cycle through blooming and starting over. The butterfly has to go into a cocoon before it spreads its wings. Understand when you need to take a step back from a situation so you can see it through better more rested eyes.

3)   Bad times are never permeant. The snow from a bad blizzard always melts. The flooding from excess rain always dries up. These conditions are normal and the bad times create really good times. If everything was always great and wonderful all the time, we would never appreciate it.

4)   We must be flexible and resilient. The plants and trees must adapt to different situations and grow where they are plated. The sunflower reaches towards the sun no matter where the sun is in the sky, it follows to compensate because it has no control over the sun so it adapts.

5)   Everything serves a purpose. Every single animal plant, and rock help to preserve homeostasis. Us humans tend to think that our purpose in life is to be famous and rich or do huge things. When we do this, we lose what life is about. Life is about a string of just a few big things mixed in with a ton of little things that we learn from and enjoy. Stop taking yourself so seriously! Balance the work with the rest.

Take what is important in your life and prioritize from there. The biggest 4 things that need to come first are your health, Survival, Family, and all close relationships. Those 4 things come first before other things to balance your life out.

My health- making sure I move my body, take the time to eat right and get good hydration, and get a good amount of sleep. Make sure you are taking care of your spiritual self. Without your health everything else will not fall into place. You can’t pour into life with an empty cup.

My family- Take care of your kids, your spouse, your parents, siblings, grandparents. They are in this life with you.

Survival- we need food, water, and shelter and a good purposeful job that we can earn a living for us and our family.

Relationships with friends- Friendship is a must and keep it to good friends that make your life better not harder.
